Northern Dreams Quilt Project

From Your Cybermoms Quilt Connection:

Hi Everyone!

Remember that community event that we had been organizing? Well, it has changed a little over the past few weeks. The community event has transformed into a project, called the Northern Dreams Quilting Project, that is being organized by a woman named Laurie McGauley of MYTHS AND MIRRORS.

So, here's the idea...

Women from around the North who are involved with the "Northern Dreams Quilt Project" are putting their dreams fro their children's futures into quilt squares. So what kind of "dreams" will be in the squares? Think about what you want for your children and your children's children... clean air and water, caring communities, supportive governments who want the best for our children, health care, a good education system, healthy forests for our children to play in ... and so much more. A quilt artist, named Judy Martin, will later sew these squares of hope into a quilt that will be hung in places like City Hall in Sudabury, S.S. Marie and North Bay as well as showcased in Ottawa as a reminder to our community and our politicians of what women want for their children's futures. I've seen some of Judy's quilts at the Art Gallery of Sudbury and they are absolutely beautiful!

Now for the plan ...

We want to hold two workshops for the Cybermoms and they will probably both be held in August. The first workshop will be a session to get women thinking about their dreams and the second will be an actual creating session. Please email me or cybmom02 for more information about the actual dates.

These events are going to be fun, inspiring, positive gatherings of really great women, so I hope that you will all try to make it out and sew your dreams of the future North into a square that will inspire our communities to move toward change.

Also, check back to this page frequently. We'll add some quilting links and pictures of your squares (if you like).
